EU-China energy technology conference

A conference on energy cooperation between the European Union and China will take place in Brussels on 17-18 March 1994.

This conference is organized in the context of the programme of energy cooperation between the European Commission's Directorate General for Energy (DG XVII) and the State Science and Technology Commission of the People's Republic of China. Such cooperation with China (which ranks third in terms of world energy production and consumption) aims to advance China's energy policy formulation, energy management practices and technical approach and eventually to have a positive impact on the global energy scene.

The European Commission aims to move cooperation activities into more industry-related areas which can provide the opportunity for technology transfer and industrial cooperation.

The conference will focus on three areas:
- Clean coal combustion;
- Electricity;
- Hydrocarbons.

The opening themes will be the energy situation in China and the technology gaps which exist there. This will be followed by examination of the European business perspective on the role of energy technology, the EU's strategy for energy cooperation and the financial tools which can facilitate the transfer of energy technology.

The conference will bring together the decision makers from central government, producers and consumers of energy in China, as well as European industrialists, with a view to considering the practical application of technical solutions to the energy problems facing China.
