A symposium on "Heavy Oil Technologies in a Wider Europe" will be held in Hindenberg on 7-8 June 1994.

Oil and gas will continue to provide more than half of Europe's energy requirements well into the 21st century. Advances in hydrocarbon technologies are an essential component in European development if dependence on imports are not to increase.

As part of the THERMIE programme's objective to promote the transfer of technologies in the hydrocarbon sector, this conference will look at the increasing importance of heavy oils. The symposium is aimed at all companies dealing with heavy oils as well as energy agencies and public utility companies. The topics which will be discussed are:

- The importance of heavy oils within the oil industry and to European energy policy;
- Exploration techniques;
- Production technologies;
- Case histories of heavy oilfields;
- Transportation and related problems.

The conference is organized in the context of the OPET network.
