Biomedicine and health under the Fourth Framework Programme: the Italian experience

The Italian VALUE relay centre in Milan, in conjunction with the VRC in Rome, is holding a conference entitled "Biomedicine and health - the Fourth Framework Programme" on 20 April 1994.

Biomedical and health research represent one of the principle research areas of the "Life sciences and technology' section of the Fourth Framework Programme and has a budgetary allocation of around ECU 300 million. An important challenge facing Europe is to establish a better relationship between basic research and clinical research, which will influence not only the state of health but will also have an impact on European industry and the general standard of living.

This conference will look at what has been achieved under the Third Framework Programme and will look forward to biomedical research under the next Framework Programme.
Some of the themes of the one-day conference are:
- The BIOMED II programme;
- The Italian experience with biomedical programmes;
- Coordination of international oncological research;
- The Fourth Framework Programme.
