The "8th European Biomass Conference for Energy, Environment, Agriculture and Industry" will be held on 3-5 October 1994 in Vienna. Papers to be presented at this event are now sought. Topics at the conference will include:

- Biomass energy from residues and waste;
- Biomass crops (soil biomass, oils and alcohols);
- Biomass thermal conversion for electricity, heat and steam;
- Biomass for transport systems;
- Biomass in municipalities;
- Biomass for electric networks;
- Policy issues including energy, agricultural, regional, RTD and demonstration policies;
- Biomass in the third world;
- Economic competitivity and social implications, job creation potential;
- Environment;
- Cooperation.

The three days of the conference will comprise:
- Full sessions with oral presentations of papers on major subjects of interest plus poster sessions to cover all aspects of production, processing, utilization and economics;
- Workshops;
- Excursions (6-7 October);
- Opening and closing sessions with speeches on policy and adoption of a conference summary;
- Press conference on the results of the sessions;
- Exhibition on biomass crops, their production, treatment, conversion and utilization.

This important European event is followed by the 2nd European Electricity Forum (6 October) and a half-day European Commission "pre-EUREKA" meeting (7 October) on industrial technology bottlenecks related to electricity production from biomass and wastes. The latter will define industrially oriented, cooperative RTD projects in the bio-electricity sector which could effectively be organized and supported under either EUREKA or the EC's Framework Programme. This half-day meeting is independent, but is well coordinated with the European Biomass Conference.
