The 23rd Solvay conference in physics, entitled 'The quantum structure of space and time', will take place in Brussels, Belgium, from 1 to 3 December.

The conference will address one of the greatest challenges of present-day fundamental physics -reconciling the two conceptual revolutions of the 20th century: Einstein general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics. The event will be chaired by David Gross, 2004 Nobel Laureate in physics. Following the tradition, a large part of the 23rd conference will be devoted to discussions.

For the first time the Solvay conference will open its doors to the public, with a half-day public event on 4 December. Jointly organised by the Solvay Institute and the European Commission, it offers the chance to follow talks given by famous scientists on major topics in physics, to meet the Nobel Prize laureates David Gross (2004) and Gerard 't Hooft (1999), as well as other participants in the event, and to ask them questions about the Universe. For further information, please visit:
