BRITE/EURAM workshop on "Surface techniques and tribology in mechanical industry"
The following projects will be discussed at the workshop:
Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs):
- Development of environmentally tolerant PVD TBCs;
- Modelling and characterization of the manufacturing process of ceramic TBCs;
- Improvement of reliability of heat engine components under service conditions using FEM of ceramic TBCs;
- New metallic materials for high-performance thermal insulation and tribological applications;
- Improved plasma-sprayed thermal barriers for relevant combustor geometry using enhanced process control and better test techniques.
CVD:
- Laser-based CVD of corrosion and wear-resistant layers;
- In-situ control of plasma CVD cBN-films;
- Diamond for applications in thermal management;
- Continuous atmospheric in-line aerosol CVD at low temperature;
- Influence of different low temperature vapour deposition techniques on the operational behaviour of meta-stable hard coatings.
Hard coatings:
- Development of hard carbon-based coatings for oil-free tribological system;
- Development of a novel hydrogen probe for plasma characterization and control during diamond film deposition;
- Behaviour of hard coatings under vibrational contact conditions;
- Application of diamond films to enhance the erosive wear resistance of cemented tungsten carbide.
Coatings of tools:
- Surface generation, surface pretreatment and surface characterization of tool materials in relation to PVD coating - a new and systematic approach;
- Sputter coatings - adjustment of the coating design and application;
- Advanced superfinish wire EDM and coating technologies for improved tool production;
- Development and application of PVD coatings for the tribological system of fine blanking as a central operation for stamping and cold-forming processes;
- Development of an industrial low temperature PVD technique of cubic boron nitride for long lifetime products.
