Grains of Science - journey at the borders of the desert

To coincide with the Festival of Science and the International Year of Deserts and Desertification, France's Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) is organising a an exhibition called 'Grains of Science - Voyage at the Borders of the Deserts'. The event will be held in Paris from 11 to 22 October 2006.
The exhibition will highlight the different areas of research involving deserts and the mechanisms of desertification, with an emphasis on the interdisiplinarity of desert-based research. The main scientific themes addressed are:
- deserts and biodiversity;
- history and human habitation;
- climatic changes and the mechanisms of desertification;
- the formation of sand dunes.
The exhibition is aimed at the general public, and in particular young people. Visitors will learn about deserts through demonstrations, discussions, conferences and written material.For more information, please visit:
