The second TIDE congress, entitled the European context for assistive technology, will take place in Paris on 26-28 April 1995.

TIDE (Technology Initiative for People with Disabilities and Elderly people) is a Commission programme for research and technological development in the field of rehabilitation technology, also called assistive technology.

The congress will consist of three parallel sessions covering the following three areas:

- First area:
. Testing of assistive technology products in Europe;
. Standards and standarization;
. Roles, involvement and training of users;
. Training and roles of researchers, developers and providers;

- Second area:
. Social and economic factors;
. Legislation , public policies and service delivery;
. Future technology trends;

Third area:
- Cognitive engineering;
- Virtual reality;
- Artificial vision;
- Robotics;
- New Materials;
- Multimedia;
- Speech and language technology.
