A symposium on biomedical and sociological consequences of sleep loss will take place in Brussels, Belgium, on 29 January 2009.

The event, which will mark the end of the Marie Curie SLEEP RESTRICTION project funded under the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), will address the following topics:
- sociological perspectives on sleep and sleep loss;
- sleep loss and cognitive functions;
- the effects of sleep loss on executive brain response in humans;
- sleep loss as a risk factor;
- sleep loss, metabolism and immunology;
- napping as a strategy against sleep loss;
- the effect of light on mood, alertness and sleep;
