The EU-funded PIQUE ('Privatisation of public services and the impact on quality, employment and productivity') project and the Socialist Group in the European Parliament (PSE) are organising a conference on the 'Privatisation of public services and the need for regulation' on 17 February in Brussels, Belgium.

Following extensive privatisation of public services in the past few decades, the PIQUE project investigated the relationship between employment, productivity and the quality of these services.

The project covered four sectors (electricity, postal services, hospitals and local public transport) in six countries (Austria, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Sweden and the United Kingdom). The research concentrated on the analysis of changes in labour relations as well as a quantitative assessment of the impact on employment and productivity. This was complemented with case studies.

The aim of the conference is to discuss a set of policy recommendations based on results of the research.For further information, please download the conference programme:
