A workshop on "New technologies for the efficient use of energy in the pulp and paper industry" will take place on 20 October 1994 in Madrid. It is organized by the European Commission, as part of its THERMIE programme for the promotion of efficient energy technologies, and the Spanish Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), a member of the OPET network.

Experts from the pulp and paper industry will present technologies and case-studies which lead to improvements in energy efficiency and environmental performance and reductions in costs. The following topics will be discussed:

- Programmes for the promotion of energy technologies and financing systems;
- Energy optimization of paper and pulp plants, recent trends and examples;
- Environment and energy;
- Aspects of proposed European legislation which affect the pulp and paper industry.

The workshop will be of interest to managers in the pulp and paper industry keen to reduce their costs, engineering design firms, equipment suppliers, energy utilities, and finance institutions.
