The two-day event will provide an opportunity to raise some of the issues that are of common concern to female astronomers, as well as to students and present solutions to address them.
Approximately one in four professional astronomers is a woman. A drop in numbers towards more senior levels suggests, however, that scientific careers are not determined solely by ability, but are affected by social and cultural factors.
The ultimate aim of the conference is to formulate suggestions for supporting and encouraging women in their communities, and for national organisations to break down barriers and ensure that men and women are given equal opportunities to pursue a career in astronomy.For further information, please visit:
