The Fourth IAASS conference on 'Making safety matter' will take place from 19 to 21 May 2010 in Huntsville, US.

The IAASS (International Association for the Advancement of Space Safety) event will be a chance to discuss and exchange information on a variety of topics related to space safety. Two specialised sessions on topics crucial to space programmes will be featured: safe atmospheric re-entries, and safety and rescue interoperability.

Space object re-entry risk will continuously grow in future, requiring the development of advanced methods for mission-end planning and risk assessment. The once exclusive group of nations with autonomous sub-orbital and orbital space access capabilities is becoming crowded with fresh and ambitious new entrants. Commercial spaceports are being planned and built, while some old ones are passing from government to private and commercial management.

Space-bound systems and aviation traffic will share increasingly crowded airspace, while aviation will increasingly rely on safety-critical services based in near-space. Without proactive initiatives, there is a risk of diminished access and reduced use of space for future generations.For further information, please click:
