Conference on knowledge management and information sharing, Valencia, Spain
Knowledge management is a discipline concerned with the analysis and technical support of practices used in an organisation to identify, create, represent, distribute and enable the adoption and leveraging of best practices embedded in collaborative settings and, in particular, in organisational processes.
Effective knowledge management is an increasingly important source of competitive advantage. It is also important to the success of contemporary organisations, bolstering employee and partner expertise.
There are several perspectives on Knowledge management, but all share the same core components. These are people, processes and technology. Some approaches take a techno-centric focus, in order to enhance knowledge integration and creation. Others take an organisational concentration, in order to optimise organization design and workflows. Another focus is ecology, where the important aspects are related to people interaction, knowledge and environmental factors as a complex adaptive system similar to a natural ecosystem.
Information sharing is related to knowledge management. It is related to data exchange, communication protocols and technological infrastructures. Information sharing effectiveness requires going beyond the syntactic nature of information technology and understanding the human functions involved in the semantic, pragmatic and social levels of organizational semiotics.
The two areas are intertwined as information sharing is the foundation for knowledge management, and this role will be high on the conference agenda. For further information, please visit: http://www.kmis.ic3k.org/(opens in new window)
