The Third World Congress on Mitochondria 2012 will take place from 8 to 9 November 2012 in Berlin, Germany.

Mitochondrial diseases are a group of disorders caused by dysfunctional mitochondria, the organelles that generate energy for the cell. Mitochondria are found in every cell of the human body except red blood cells. Mitochondria convert the energy of food molecules into the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) that powers most cell functions. Mitochondrial diseases are often caused by genetics or mutations to the mitochondrial DNA that affect mitochondria function. Mitochondrial diseases take on unique characteristics both because of the way the diseases are often inherited and because mitochondria are so critical to cell function.

The conference will bring together experts from academia and industries to debate on the latest scientific advances in the field of mitochondria. Session topics will include:
- mitochondrial dysfunctions in chronic diseases and pathologies: recent advances and conclusions;
- mito-devices 2012 mitochondria and devices:innovations & new opportunities;
- strategies to target mitochondria: recent clinical data and ootential therapeutic studies;
- mito-engineering 2012: the mitochondria engineering concept challenges & limits.For further information, please visit: http://www.targeting-mitochondria.com
