'Asthma in the DNA age', London, UK
Asthma is characterised by an abnormal mucosa of the airways, inflammation, symptoms of wheezing and shortness of breath. It affects more than one in ten children in the developed world, with 300 million cases worldwide. Genetic studies offer a structured means of understanding the causes of asthma and of identifying targets for treating it.
The conference will provide an insight into the research progress made in the understanding of the genetic mechanisms underlying asthma during the last 25 years. It will also look at the impact of completion of the human genome sequence and the resulting substantial technical advances will also be highlighted and the next steps in gene discovery will be discussed. For further information, please visit:
