Digital technologies are now part of our lives, shaping and changing the likes of health care and research. Whilst there is already a vast amount of literature on the subject, it is clear that these technologies raise important ethical questions that must be addressed. For health care professionals their use must be based on evidence; for researchers they must use new methods fairly; for ethics committees the 'fear of the new' must not create grounds for unwarranted hostility or even unfavourable review.
