A workshop for the AMI User Group will take place in Brussels on 24-25 April 1995. The AMI project was sponsored by the ESPRIT programme of the Commission, in order to promote the use of measurement in software development. The event organizers have issued a call for papers to be presented at the workshop.

The project was funded by ESPRIT in order to develop a practical approach backed by full-scale tests on software projects. The AMI approach, based on the concepts of software process maturity assessment and goal-oriented measurement, was incorporated into a handbook and validated in 19 industrial trials. The handbook was published in the United Kingdom in March 1992.

The workshop will be limited to 30 participants. Those wishing to participate are invited to submit a position paper of one to two pages on the following topics:

- What should the role be of the AMI method in a Software Process Improvement initiative?
- Consistency with the SPICE project;
- What are the main weaknesses/strengths of the method?
- What type of cost/benefit analysis is available? Is it possible to recommend an analysis approach?
- Are other steps necessary, i.e. data collection, exploitation?
- Should the method address cultural issues and if so, which type?
- Should the method be aligned with CMM version 1.1? What are the implications?
- Should practical recommendations be added? What type?
- Should the metrics list/definition be revised?
- Other materials needed?
