A conference/debate entitled "Towards the information society in Europe" will be held in Paris on 7 April 1995. It will be attended by representatives of DG III (Industry) and DG XIII (Telecommunications, Information Market, and Exploitation of Research) of the European Commission.

The theme of the event will be the social, societal and cultural aspects of the emerging information society in France and Europe. It will focus on the new relationship between information technologies and society, with particular regard to the following topics:

- Recent Community initiatives and research in the field of information and communication;
- New industrial partnerships;
- The point of view of researchers in the field of information and communication sciences;
- New information technologies for adult training;

A round table on the risks for the working environment, social solidarity and cultural and linguistic diversity on the threshold of the 21st century will take place in the afternoon.
