An open workshop on the subject of Open Information Interchange (OII) will take place in Brussels, Belgium on 30-31 October 1995.

The workshop is being jointly organized by DG XIII of the European Commission and the European Workshop for Open Systems (EWOS).

The purpose of the workshop is to enable participants to:

- Learn about the latest developments in OII standards and their applications;
- Exchange experiences of implementing and using these standards;
- Discuss issues and problems associated with OII;
- Decide on standards to be used in their specific environment;
- Contribute to developing recommendations on actions.

The scope of the workshop will cover both standards and specific actions for the multimedia content market. The following specific themes will be addressed:

- Standards and specific actions for platform independent applications;
- The role and requirements of electronic librarians;
- Using OII standards: legal implications, multi-linguism and cultural aspects.

The workshop is aimed at information providers, users, those involved in standards development and anyone who wishes to contribute to recommendations on action to be taken in addressing issues and problems in the OII environment.
