The first European seminar on sorghum for energy and industry will take place in Toulouse, France, on 1-3 April 1996. The seminar is being organized by the European Commission (DG XII), the French Institute for Agronomic Research (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique) and ADEME (Agence de l'Environnement et de la Maitrise de l'Energie).

Sweet and fibre sorghum have been studied in Europe for the past three to five years. The seminar will present the latest developments in this area, emphasize the agronomic and industrial advantages of sorghum, identify the bottlenecks of the system and identify areas for further scientific research. The focus will be on agronomic techniques, industrial valorizations, environmental management, and economic and regional studies.
