A conference devoted to "Migration, development and policy" will take place in Mont Sainte Odile, France, from 31 May to 5 June 1996. The conference is being organized by the European Science Foundation, with the support of the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of human capital and mobility (HCM).

The six-day event will include analyses of the labour market behaviour of immigrants, how they assimilate into the labour markets of receiving countries and how their presence effects labour markets. The broader economic effects of migration on economic integration and convergence between economies will also be considered. A number of presentations will examine and evaluate the immigration policies of governments in the light of recent experience.

The conference will be addressed by some of the leading researchers on patterns of European migration, on the economic theory of migration, and on the application of theory to empirical evidence.

Some grants will be available from the HCM programme to enable the participation of young researchers, notably from the less favoured regions of the European Union. It is possible that some funds will also become available for participants from Central and East European countries.
