A conference entitled "Access to public information: A key to commercial growth and electronic democracy" will be held in Stockholm, Sweden, on 27-28 June 1996. The conference, which is being organized by the European Commission, DG XIII, will discuss issues relating to public access to information and structures for making information available.

In the light of the forthcoming Commission Green Paper on the subject, the conference will provide an important opportunity to debate the issues in the company of a wide selection of experts, from the European Commission, the European Parliament and EU Member States. Experts from USA will also be invited.

Themes to be covered by the conference include:

- Public access to public sector information and dissemination policy;
- Conciliation of access to public information with privacy, intellectual property rights and national interests;
- Improving synergy between public and private sectors in the information market;
- The Information Society and democracy in Europe.
