The European School of Climatology and Natural Hazards, part of the educational and training activities of the European Community's specific RTD programme in the field of environment and climate, is holding a course entitled "Floods and landslides - Integrated risk assessment", to take place in Orvieto, Italy, on 19-26 May 1996.

The course is open to gradating, graduate and post-graduate students in appropriate fields of climatology, natural hazards or other closely-related fields. The course programme will include lectures, case studies and visits, and students will have opportunities for informal discussion with lecturers. Subjects covered will include the following:

- Floods and landslides hazard;
- Types and characteristics of floods and landslides;
- Effects of meteorological and climate change on natural disasters;
- Effects of floods and landslides in terms of risk;
- Forecasting - modelling, monitoring systems and alarms;
- Cartography, GIS and remote sensing;
- Socio-economic perspective;
- Multi-hazard and land planning.
