ONLINE EDUCA ASIA, an international conference on technology in distance learning, will take place in Singapore on 2-4 September 1996. The conference is part of a series of conferences, to be held in Berlin, Moscow and Seoul, focusing on the growing awareness of the needs and opportunities available through the use of technology in distance learning. It is being supported by the European Commission (DG XIII and DG XXII), Belgacom, Combellga, Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom.

Key topics and themes to be addressed by the conference include:

- Personnel development via online training;
- Technology-based solutions;
- Developing the market for corporate educational services;
- Schools services;
- Costing telematics-supported flexible and distance learning.

Other themes and topics under discussion will include: language and cultural factors in cross-border implementation; accreditation and standardization; quality standards in telelearning; and the use of personal skills cards in the accreditation of competence.

ONLINE EDUCA ASIA aims to provide an important Asian forum for the exchange of information between practitioners in the field of education and training who have recognized the need to find new solutions to the challenges posed by rapidly changing environments within their professions.

The conference will be accompanied by an exhibition presenting institutions offering distance education, publishers, producers of software and hardware and the many other players in the rapidly expanding world of distance learning.

Presenters wishing to take part in the conference must submit an abstract of their proposed presentation (not more than 300 words in English) by 31 May 1996.
