The Community's Interchange of Data between Administrations (IDA) programme, whose aim is to support the implementation of trans-European networks for the interchange of data between administrations, is organizing its first conference on the role of public administrations in the Information Society. The conference, entitled "Trans-European public administration networks", will take place in Rome, Italy, on 20-21 June 1996.

The conference will bring together directors, planners, and telematics and technical experts from public administrations across Europe to discuss the planning and management of pan-European telematics services. It aims to analyse the future choices and roles for public administrations, and the means by which telematics and information technologies can be used to offer better services and build closer contact with citizens.

The conference programme includes the following sessions:

- The Information Society and public administrations;
- Trans-European public administration networks: the IDA experience;
- Preparing for the future;
