Conservation of biological diversity in the Black Sea region
Organized by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, in cooperation with the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and with the support of the NATO Scientific Division, the workshop will provide a forum for the exchange of information between international scientists. The aim is to consolidate existing data on the current state of the environment and ecology of the Black Sea region, to develop a system of indicators for sustainable development, to make recommendations for an overall regional strategy and to contribute to international efforts already under way.
The workshop may also be considered as a model for the solution of similar problems in a number of other inland seas and large lakes around the world. Topics to be covered will include:
- Biological diversity and the natural and cultural heritage;
- Analysis of human impacts and threats to biological diversity;
- Instruments for conservation and sustainable development.
