Towards the Fifth Framework Programme of R&D in the European Union

The Italian Ministry of Universities and Scientific and Technological Research and DG XII of the European Commission are organizing an international conference on the future of European research, to take place in Rome on 21 June 1996. It is being prepared in collaboration with the Italian Agency for the Promotion of European Research (APRE).
Entitled "Towards the Fifth Framework Programme of R&D in the European Union", the conference will inform those active in the field of RTD on the main lines of action of the Community's research programmes and the goals of the Community's Fifth Framework Programme, due to commence in 1998. It will also provide an overview of the needs and expectations of the Italian research system.
Among the speakers at the conference there will be Mr. Scapagnini, President of the European Parliament's Committee of Research, Technological Development and Energy, Mr. Routti, Director-General of DG XII of the European Commission, Mr. Grata, Director of DG XIII/D, and Mr. Berlinguer, Italian Minister for Public Education, Universities and Scientific and Technological Research.
