Safety performance measurement

A one-day international conference on "Safety performance measurement" will be held in Paris, France, on 18 October 1996. It is organized by the European Process Safety Centre (EPSC), which has been working closely with DG XI of the European Commission on the elaboration of the SEVESO II Directive aimed at controlling major accident hazards involving dangerous substances.

The conference will concentrate on the work of the EPSC's working party on safety management and will give practical examples of best practice from major European companies. Topics include:

- Feedback from incident measurement;
- Positive safety management inputs to counter negative outputs of failure;
- Safety performance measurements to demonstrate management systems' effectiveness;
- Measurement of "safety culture".
