The Ninth ISCO Conference, "Towards sustainable land use", will take place in Bonn, Germany, from 26 to 30 August 1996. It is organized by the International Soil Conservation Organization (ISCO).

The conference will examine the issues of combating soil degradation and developing sustainable forms of land use. In particular, five topics will be discussed:

- Soil conservation and sustainable land use - responses to erosion and desertification;
- Other forms of soil degradation - assessment, prevention and rehabilitation;
- Influence of demographic, socio-economic and cultural factors on sustainable land use;
- Soil conservation and sustainable land use - innovations in approaches, technologies and practices;
- Furthering cooperation between people and institutions.

A Dare-to-Share Fair will provide participants with opportunities for active cooperation in the field, and ideas on how to obtain institutional support in developing viable forms of land use.

Representatives from the European Commission will express their views on policies and measures for sustainable land use.
