It is sponsored by the UK Department of Trade and Industry and the Confederation of British Industry.While many small companies recognize the need to innovate, they do not always have the necessary research capacity to carry out R&D activities on their own. At the same time, many larger companies, university departments and government bodies are willing to offer their facilities and expertise to outside partners.
