Facts and opinions on urban public transport in the EU

A seminar on "Facts and opinions on urban public transport in the European Union" will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 3 to 4 October 1996. The seminar is organized by the ISOTOPE consortium. ISOTOPE is a project funded by the European Community's Transport specific RTD programme, part of the Fourth Framework Programme, which aims to produce recommendations for the improvement of urban transport systems in the EU.

The aim of the seminar is to raise awareness of the results of ISOTOPE's survey of urban transport systems in western Europe, as well as promoting discussion and interpretation of the survey results. In addition to presentations on the ISOTOPE project and the survey, and the European Commission's initiatives in the area of urban transport, there will be four technical workshops.

The workshop themes will be as follows:

- Looking for the right balance between European principles and local choices for urban public transport;
- Assessing the influence of, and stimulating a favourable environment for, public transport;
- Comparing and measuring system performance in urban public transport;
- Continuous performance improvement in urban public transport.
