SYNERGY conference on Polish coal in Europe

A conference on "Polish coal in Europe", supported by the Community's SYNERGY programme, will be held in Katowice, Poland, from 8 to 9 October 1996. It is organized by the EC Energy Centre and the Central Mining Institute in Katowice on behalf of DG XVII of the European Commission and the Polish Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The aim of the conference is to examine the issues facing the Polish coal industry in a competitive market, as well as the social and economic implications of restructuring. Particular topics to be covered include:

- Mining efficiency and technology;
- Management structures;
- Transport;
- Social issues;
- Environment.
