A conference on "Public key solutions", PKS'96, will be held in Zurich, Switzerland, from 30 September to 2 October 1996. The aim of the conference is to promote public key information security solutions for electronic commerce, trade, telecommunications, administrations and healthcare systems.

During the conference, the SEMPER project, funded by the Community's ACTS programme in the field of advanced communications technologies and services, will be hosting a workshop to present the results of the project. SEMPER aims to develop a generic architecture for secure electronic commerce over the Internet. In particular, the project will develop a prototype Java-based security tool kit.

Other sessions at the conference will present the activities of the European Commission in the field of electronic commerce, with representatives from both DG III and DG XIII. The conference will also be addressed by representatives of several major companies involved in developing security systems for electronic commerce.
