Eighth Joint European Networking Conference

The eight Joint European Networking Conference (JENC8) will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland, on 12-15 may 1997. The conference, which is being organized by TERENA (Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association) and hosted by UKERNA (United Kingdom Education and Research networking Association), will focus on the theme "Diversity and integration: The new European networking landscape".

The final deregulation steps of much of the European telecommunications infrastructure will be taken in 1997, making this an important year for the European networking community. In parallel, Europe is witnessing an explosion in demand for network services and innovative distributed application.

JENC8 will offer participants the opportunity to acquire up-to-date information, to debate and assess the new deregulated telecommunications environment in Europe, new leading-edge applications, and the network/internetwork support infrastructure which is currently being developed.

The conference will address issues of importance to researchers, network and service providers and commercial users. Papers are invited on the following topics (non-exclusive list):

- Emerging network technologies and network engineering;
- User support, training and education;
- Security and management issues;
- Information systems and distributed applications;
- Economic and political issues.

An exhibition area will be available for international and national companies and institutions for demonstration of their products and services.
