A conference entitled "Teleservices and job creation" will be held in Cork, Ireland, on 20 September 1996. The conference will present the results of the COMBAT project (Corporate marketing to overcome barriers facing disabled teleworkers), which was funded by the European Community's Technology Initiative for Disabled and Elderly People (TIDE).

The COMBAT project aims to overcome the market exclusion of disabled people in order that they may compete for employment opportunities in information technology distance work across Europe. In particular, the project aims to develop transferable solutions which match the needs of individuals with market requirements and overcome the barriers to technological implementation for disabled people. COMBAT also aims to establish a central business unit which can support a network of local community-based businesses.

The conference will discuss the problems of teleworking and possible solutions, and will examine a number of case studies of teleworking in practice in Ireland and Spain.
