A European conference on "Evaluation methods for Structural Funds intervention" will be held in Berlin, Germany, on 2-3 December 1996. the conference is being organized by DG XVI of the European Commission (Regional Policy), in cooperation with the other Directorates-General in charge of the Structural Funds: DG V (Employment, industrial relations and social affairs), DG VI (Agriculture) and DG XIV (Fisheries).

The conference aims to improve the quality and the use of evaluation in the context of the European Structural Funds. It will address issues such as: assessing needs and strategies; collecting and processing data, clarifying judgement criteria, and analysing impact.

The event will provide a forum for the exchange of information among the large number of consultants and civil servants involved in the intermediate evaluations of Structural Fund interventions. It will bring together external evaluators appointed by the monitoring committees as well as members of these committees at European, national and regional levels.
