The DIALOG II Symposium will take place in Hamilton, Bermuda, on 17-22 October 1997. The symposium is being organized as part of the Dissertations Initiative for the Advancement of Limnology and Oceanography. Funding to support European participation in this event is being provided by the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of Marine Science and Technology (MAST).

DIALOG seeks to reduce the historical, institutional and philosophical barriers that limit the exchange of information among aquatic scientists, and to facilitate the transition from PhD student to independent researcher. The five-day DIALOG II Symposium will bring together 40 recent PhD recipients, from all disciplines in limnology and oceanography, in order to broaden their perspective of the field and initiate cross-discipline collaborations at an early stage of their careers.

Participants will make both oral and poster presentations of their research. They will also form working groups to discuss emerging aquatic science research, education, and policy issues. Funding-agency representatives and research scientists will present perspectives on interdisciplinary aquatic science research programmes and on building a successful career.
