A conference and tutorials on product data technology, "Product Data Technology Days '97", will be held in Sophia Antipolis, France, from 14 to 16 April 1997. The event is being organized by the Product Data Technology Advisory Group (PDTAG), an accompanying measure under the Community's ESPRIT programme, and is co-sponsored by the European Commission. Both the conference and tutorials will focus on the competitive deployment of product data technology.

The tutorials, which will be held on 14 April, are aimed at increasing awareness, knowledge and confidence of modern product data technology methods, so that business advantages can be fully exploited and measurable benefits can be realized. Three tutorial sessions will be held:

- The development and use of STEP (ISO 10303);
- Integrating SGML, STEP/EXPRESS, HTML and Java, to make product data accessible across the World Wide Web;
- The integration of STEP and SGML standards.

The conference will take place on 15 and 16 April, and will aim to demonstrate that the competitive deployment of product data technology is a reality. The objective is to raise awareness within enterprises of the benefits to be expected from entering this new generation of technologies.

The conference programme will cover the following topics:

- Product data technology (PDT) in concurrent engineering;
- PDT deployment in industry
. Building industry;
. Transport industry;
- New PDT methodologies;
- Introducing PDT in industry;
- PDT in communication;
- Data sharing and integration;
- PDT modelling.
