The fifth European workshop on "Modern developments and applications in microbeam analysis", EMAS'97, will take place in Torquay, UK, from 11 to 15 May 1997. The workshop is being organized by the European Microbeam Analysis Society (EMAS), in collaboration with the Royal Microscopical Society (UK). It is supported by the European Commission within the framework of the Community's specific R&D programme in the field of Standards, Measurements and Testing (SMT). The primary aim of the EMAS workshops is to assess the state of the art and reliability of microbeam analysis techniques. This year's workshop will deal with various techniques applied in microbeam analysis, including electron beam microanalysis of bulk and thin specimens, traditional and novel forms of spectrometry, surface analysis and imaging, and new techniques such as ESEM, LV-SEM and SPM.
The main topics to be covered are:
- Quantification in EPMA;
- WD and ED X-ray spectrometry;
- Microbeam techniques in biology;
- Surface analysis - spectrometry and imaging;
- Thin film analysis and data processing.
