The fifth series of the "Ten Nobels for the Future" seminars will be held in Milan, Italy, on 5 and 6 June 1997, and from 4 to 6 December 1997.

The 1997 series is aimed at forming a rational perception of the future that can help the public to distinguish between real dangers and unwarranted fears. The June seminar will be devoted to the future of employment and its relationship with education and training. The December conference will draw on an analysis of the forces that are behind the changes now under way, and the models that enable them to be predicted. Their links with real-world choices and new global priorities will be discussed, with attention being given to the key role played by the expanding body of shared information.

The "Ten Nobels for the Future" series brings together Nobel laureates in a variety of fields, to discuss their visions of science, economics and ethics for the coming century.
