Biotechnology Entrepreneurship
Current scientific and industrial development in world biotechnology clearly shows how essential the emerging biotechnology industry is, in particular the small, dynamic and innovative enterprises arising from the entrepreneurial initiatives of academic researchers. However, despite initiatives already taken within the BIOTECH II programme, it is clear that much still needs to be done to encourage biotechnology entrepreneurship in Europe.
The main objective of the workshop will be to formulate recommendations for adapting future EU research activities, particularly within the context of the Fifth Framework Programme, with a view to promoting entrepreneurial initiatives in biotechnology. The workshop will also provide an opportunity for wider discussion among the key players/organizations in this area (scientists/entrepreneurs, start-up companies, venture capital organizations, enterprise incubators, science parks).
For reasons of synergy, the workshop is being held in conjunction with EuropaBio'97, the first European Bioindustry Congress (25-27 June 1997).
