Telework'97, the fourth European Assembly on Telework and New Ways of Working, will be held in Stockholm, Sweden, from 24 to 26 September 1997. The event is organized by NUTEK, the City of Stockholm, and the European Community Telework/Telematics Forum, with the support of the European Commission, DG XIII.

The aim of the conference is to discuss the latest developments in teleworking, both in technology and in practices. The programme will go beyond understanding the basic principles of teleworking, by asking pragmatic questions such as:

- How beneficial is teleworking for the organization?
- How can teleworking be introduced?
- What is the impact on work conditions and regulations?
- In what ways can telework improve the individual's quality of life and what are the benefits for society?
- Could teleworking, in a broad sense, contribute to economic, social and cultural development and cohesion?
- What technology is needed and how can telework be stimulated?

A presentation will be given by a representative of the European Commission, who will outline the Commission's activities and programmes in the field and their contribution to telework. In particular, the ACTS programme for Advanced Communications Technologies and Services will be presented. Other sessions at the conference will discuss examples from European countries, particularly Sweden, and examine developments in technology. A number of parallel sessions will discuss aspects of telework in particular situations.
