Regional development in the Information Society

A conference entitled "Regional development in the Information Society - The end of the province" will be held in Steyr, Austria, on 12 September 1997. The conference is being jointly organized by the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Austrian Government, the City of Steyr and local bodies.

The conference will provide an opportunity for wide-ranging discussions on the opportunities and limits of using information technologies for the support of regional development. Furthermore, it will give participants the opportunity to explore the possibilities of cooperative activities in the field of modern information technologies, and give information about programmes to support this.

The conference programme will include presentations of concrete examples of regional information systems in Austria, and of the EU's activities in the field. Among the speakers at the event will be MEPs and Commission officials from the Information Society Project Office (ISPO).
