Euro-Med Net 98, a conference on the Euro-Mediterranean Information Society, will take place in Nicosia, Cyprus, from 4 to 7 March 1998. The event is organized within the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership with support from the Cyprus government and the European Commission.

The aim of the conference is to activate all available regional, financial, human and intellectual capital to help the Euro-Mediterranean region get onto the Internet. Four key elements will form the basis of the discussions:

- People, which will constitute the future inter-connected Euro-Mediterranean community;
- Issues - regulatory, financial, organizational and educational - which will have to be dealt with and solved to achieve greater interconnection of northern and southern Mediterranean backbones;
- Potential, which has to be revealed and promoted to motivate economic actors in the Euro-Med region who have not yet realised the major role the Internet can play in the development of trans-regional cooperation in numerous fields;
- Collaborative pilot projects, which will result from four working days of demonstrations, awareness building and discussion.

The organizers are currently seeking technical papers for submission at the conference, and proposals for projects, panels, workshops and tutorials. The deadline for submission of papers and proposals is 15 January 1998.
