"EUREKA meets Asia", a major event organized by the Portuguese chairmanship of the EUREKA initiative (June 1997 - June 1998), will take place in Macau from 31 March to 4 April 1998. The event, which will include a European technology exhibition, brokerage event and international conference, is intended to provide a platform for the promotion of increased technological and economic cooperation between Europe and Asia.

"EUREKA meets Asia" will provide participating companies and research organizations with a unique opportunity to establish contacts and cooperative links and to display and promote their technological capacities to a high-profile audience.

The European Technology Exhibition will provide EUREKA project participants with the opportunity to display their technological achievements and establish links for future cooperation. The Brokerage Event will include plenary sessions, information workshops and bilateral meetings and will include participation by a number of Asian enterprises. The international conference, "EUREKA/Asia - A new challenge for technological and economic cooperation", to be held on 2 April 1998, will be presided by the Portuguese Minister for Science and technology, Prof. Mariano Gago.
