A workshop held in Dublin on 23-25 March 1992, jointly sponsored by the Commission of the European Communities and the U.S. Government, developed recommendations for the EC-US Task Force on Biotechnology Research on ways to improve the communication of biotechnology to the public. Community and United States experts in education, journalism, science and policy research, genetics, sociology, agronomy, ethics, and food science, met to consider the roles of the media, government institutions, the scientist as communicator, special interest groups, and educators, with the aim of achieving a better socioeconomic integration of biotechnology. The recommendations of the workshop will form a basis for discussion at the meeting of the EC-US Task Force on 21-23 October 1992.Further information is available from:
