The international SPI'98 conference and exhibition of Software Process Improvement will take place in Monte Carlo, Monaco, from 1 to 4 December 1998. The fourth in an established and successful series devoted to software process improvement in practice, the theme of this year's event will be "Improvement in practice: Reviewing experience, previewing future trends".

There is now significant experience worldwide in assessing and improving software processes, using a variety of available models and methods. Developments in maturity model integration and standardization, together with the impressive achievements of the lead companies, also suggest that software process improvement itself is moving to a level of higher maturity as we approach the turn of the millennium - a "second wave" as it were, based on the experience and understanding gained in the first wave.

SPI'98 will present real-life experiences and critically examine likely "second wave" developments against benchmarks provided by these experiences. The event will include an exhibition and tools fair featuring worldwide service and tool providers in the field of software process and quality.
