Green Paper on Convergence of Telecommunications - Hearings

Following the Commission's publication of the Green Paper on the Convergence of Telecommunications, Media and Information Technology Sectors in December 1997, a number of consultation hearings have been announced by Commissioners Martin Bangemann and Marcelino Oreja. These consultation hearings will form the basis of a report on how the new generation of electronic media should be regulated in the next century.

The consultation period runs until the end of April 1998 and will follow the model set out in the Green Paper. Three separate hearings are planned, in Brussels, to enable direct dialogue between interested parties and the Commission:

- The first will be on 26 March 1998 and will be for European-level industry, user and other representative organizations;

- A two-day meeting for individual companies and other organizations will be held on 30-31 March 1998;

- A third meeting for Member States and national regulators, notably telecommunications and broadcasting regulators will be held on 27 April 1998.
