A workshop on 'Transport, fate and the impact of the chemical pollution load in the marine environment' will be held in Barcelona, from 29 September to 1 October 1999.

The Spanish Institute of chemical and environmental research (CSIC) is organising the event, which will focus on an overview of data on the concentration, transport, degradation bioaccumulation of the main pollutants in the marine ecosystem.

Particular attention will be paid to assessing which pollutants constitute the greatest long-term risk to the marine environment, and how these are transported from source to sink.

The organisers expect the workshop to attract leading scientists in the field of marine pollution, whose papers and conclusions will be published following the event.
